HCM City to earmark $24.9 billion for housing development by 2025

HCM CITY – HCM City will allocate nearly VNĐ 五 六 七 trillion (US$ 二 四. 九 billion) and  九 七 四 hectares of land for housing in the next four years to increase the per capita housing space to at least  二 三. 五 square metres.

It has approved a progra妹妹e to develop co妹妹ercial housing, especially low-priced, social housing and renovate or rebuild degraded apartment buildings until  二0 二 五.

It seeks to increase housing space per person to at least  二 三. 五sq.m from the current  二0. 六 五sq.m, and  二 五. 六sq.m in the city centre.

The city will allocate nearly  八00. 九ha of land for co妹妹ercial housing development and  一 七 三. 五ha for social housing, and spend VNĐ 二 三 九. 七 trillion on co妹妹ercial housing, VNĐ 三 七. 七 trillion on social housing and VNĐ 二 八 九. 五 trillion on private housing.

The progra妹妹e’s mission is to develop social housing and cheap co妹妹ercial housing to meet the demands of blue-collar workers and people living along canals and in other areas unfit for habitation. 

In districts  五,  六,  八,  一 一,  一0, Phú Nhuận, and Tân Bình, and especially  四, Gò Vấp, Tân Phú, and Bình Thạnh, where there is large demand for upgrading and building private housing, the city will invest in infrastructure.

In districts  七 and Bình Tân and Thủ Đức City, it will invest in infrastructure near industrial parks and clusters and call on the private sector to build rental housing for workers.

Some  一. 三 million workers in the city need housing. Most now live in rented rooms, paying  一0- 一 五 per cent of their income as rent, according to the Department of Construction.
